Honfleur is the painters' port — Monet, Boudin, and Jongkind all came here in the late 19th century to capture the light over the harbor and effectively invented Impressionism in the process. It's also 200 km from Paris with no direct train, which is exactly why a Paris to Honfleur private driver is the best way to do it as a day trip. The combined train-and-bus alternative takes 3.5 hours each way; a chauffeur takes 2h15.
Why Honfleur is worth the drive
The Vieux Bassin (old harbor) is one of the most photographed scenes in Normandy: slate-fronted Norman houses leaning over the water, fishing boats and pleasure yachts side by side, and a permanent line of plein-air painters working at their easels along the quay. Add Sainte-Catherine — the largest wooden church in France, built by 15th-century shipwrights using shipbuilding techniques — the Saturday food market on Place Sainte-Catherine, and the seafood restaurants along Quai Sainte-Catherine, and you have a full, satisfying day.
For a richer Normandy plan, combine Honfleur with our Normandy D-Day day trip or push west to Bayeux. Most clients with two days in Normandy do Honfleur on day one and the D-Day beaches on day two.

Add Deauville or Étretat for a bigger day
Honfleur is 15 minutes from Deauville — the Belle Époque resort, home of the American Film Festival, the famous boardwalk and the Hôtel Normandy Barrière — and around 1 hour from Étretat, the white-chalk cliffs Monet returned to paint dozens of times. For travelers wanting both coastal landscapes in one trip, our Paris to Étretat cliffs private car service guide covers the more dramatic cliff side. Our long-distance chauffeur handles the multi-stop coastal loop comfortably.
Best vehicle
For two travelers: the Mercedes E-Class — economical, comfortable, ideal for the 4+ hours of total driving. For families and groups: the V-Class van — captain's chairs make the long return drive far more relaxed. Both have ample boot space if you're stopping at the Honfleur food market (the cheeses, ciders and seafood are excellent souvenirs).
What to bring
Comfortable shoes — the Honfleur old town is entirely cobblestone, brutal in heels. A light jacket even in summer — the harbor breeze is consistent. Cash for the market vendors who don't all take cards.
