Over 9,000 graves overlooking Omaha Beach. The visitor center has excellent exhibits explaining the entire Normandy campaign. Plan for at least an hour here.

Pointe du Hoc

These cliffs were scaled by the U.S. Rangers under heavy fire. You can still see the German bunkers and bomb craters. The views are incredible, and it helps you understand just how difficult the invasion was.

Arromanches Artificial Harbour

Remains of the massive floating harbors the Allies built to land supplies. There's a 360-degree cinema that shows historic footage, and a D-Day museum explaining how the harbors worked.

Bayeux

A medieval town that survived the war intact. The 11th-century Bayeux Tapestry is here (it tells the story of William the Conqueror). Good spot for lunch: plenty of cafes and creperies.

Normandy Cider Farms

If time allows, stop at a local farm to taste traditional Norman cider and Calvados (apple brandy). It's a nice change of pace after the heavy history of the beaches.
